If you've never had a fitness assessment, it's natural to wonder whether it will be a test you can fail. It isn't. An assessment simply tells your coach where to start, so your training is safe, appropriate and measurable from day one.
The conversation
We begin by talking: your goals, training experience, current activity, any injuries or health considerations, and your schedule. Some of this informs screening. If anything suggests you should see a physiotherapist or doctor first, we'll say so honestly.
Selected measures
Depending on your goals and suitability, we may look at some of the following. Not every client does every test.
- Movement quality: how you squat, hinge, push, pull and balance
- Mobility in key joints relevant to your goals
- Basic strength or muscular endurance, at a level appropriate for you
- Simple cardiovascular indicators
- Body composition, measured under consistent conditions
How to prepare
- Wear comfortable clothes you can move in.
- Bring water and a list of any relevant medical guidance you've been given.
- For body composition measurements, keep conditions consistent between visits: similar time of day, hydration and food intake. We'll advise beforehand.
What happens with the results
Your results set your starting point: which exercise variations you begin with, starting loads, conditioning intensity and the mobility work that matters for you. We record them so we can retest the measures that matter for your goal later and show you what has changed.
A fitness assessment is not a medical examination and does not diagnose any condition.
